Head Rowing Coach and Assistant Rowing Coach
Avonside Girls' High School are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Head Rowing Coach and Assistant Rowing Coach to join our programme for the 2026/2027 rowing season.
Affiliated with Canterbury Rowing Club, our squad trains from Kerr's Reach on the Avon River using our own fleet of boats and equipment. We are committed to providing a positive, inclusive environment where young women can develop confidence, resilience and a lifelong passion for rowing while striving for excellence on the water.
You will be supported by the Director of Sport, school staff and a dedicated parent committee who work together to deliver a successful rowing programme.
The Roles:
The Head Rowing Coach will:
- Lead the school's rowing programme and coaching team.
- Plan and oversee the season's structured on-water and land-based training programme.
Both coaching positions involve:
- Coaching and developing rowers from novice through to senior level in both sculling and sweep rowing.
- Delivering high-quality on-water and land-based training sessions.
- Developing athletes' technical skills, fitness, race tactics and teamwork.
- Creating a positive, supportive and inclusive team culture where every athlete can thrive.
- Attending regattas, training camps and programme events throughout the season.
- Assisting with equipment maintenance, boat care and fleet management.
- Working collaboratively with school staff, volunteers and the parent committee to deliver a successful rowing programme.
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for coaches who:
- Have rowing and/or rowing coaching experience.
- Possess strong technical knowledge of rowing, with experience in sculling and sweep rowing.
- Are excellent communicators who can motivate and inspire young athletes.
- Have strong organisational skills and enjoy working as part of a team.
- Are passionate about developing young people both on and off the water.
- Hold, or are willing to obtain, relevant safety qualifications.
